Field Operations Cops In Shops ATC agents work in an undercover capacity, uniforms of the establishment, at retails outlets as cashiers or clerks with permission of store owners and management. The program is conducted during peak business hours and in locations where underage youths are populous. Project FOCUS Fighting Off-Campus Underage Sales targets 10 university centered areas around Louisiana. It utilizes a threefold strategy of enforcement, education, and public awareness to reduce the underage drinking problem. Elements include more compliance checks of alcohol retailers, expanded agent presence at community events and distribution of alcohol awareness literature. Compliance Checks Compliance checks are unannounced visits to establishments by two undercover agents and a trained, underaged operative. The operative will enter the establishment and attempt an illegal purchase to determine compliance with alcohol and tobacco laws. Agent Presence ATC strives to maintain a visible presence at retailers through inspections and observations. During inspections, agents present themselves in uniform to complete a checklist of qualifications of the licensed establishment. Observations are done undercover in attempts to observe instances of illegal sales to underage youth. |
